IRS W-4 -- Employee's Withholding Certificate
Fill out the IRS W-4 form online free. Every new employee completes a W-4 so their employer can withhold the correct amount of federal income tax. No account, no uploads -- everything stays in your browser.
When to use Form W-4
A W-4 is completed by an employee and given to their employer when they start a new job or when their withholding situation changes (marriage, new dependents, second job, significant life event). The employer uses the W-4 to calculate how much federal income tax to withhold from each paycheck.
Employees who need to adjust withholding mid-year -- for example after a major income change or to avoid underpayment penalties -- should submit a new W-4 to their employer.
