IRS W-9 -- Request for Taxpayer Identification Number
Fill out and sign the IRS W-9 form online free. Collect taxpayer ID from contractors, freelancers, and vendors before issuing a 1099. No account, no uploads -- everything stays in your browser.
When to use Form W-9
Request a W-9 from any individual or entity you pay $600 or more as a nonemployee in a calendar year. The TIN collected on the W-9 is required to file 1099-NEC at year end. The form is retained by the payer -- it is never submitted to the IRS.
Failure to obtain a W-9 from a payee who is subject to backup withholding makes the payer responsible for withholding 24% from future payments until the TIN is provided.
